Do I Need One Microneedling Treatment or a Series?

Why regenerative skin treatment is better thought of as a progression, not a package of identical appointments.

One of the most common questions we hear is:

“How many microneedling treatments do I need?”

The most accurate answer is also the least exciting marketing answer:

It depends on your skin.

Why microneedling is often performed as a series

Microneedling creates controlled microscopic injury that initiates a repair response and extracellular-matrix remodeling. That biological process doesn’t happen instantaneously.

And when researchers have studied microneedling for facial rejuvenation, they have usually studied more than one session.

A 2025 systematic review evaluated 21 studies involving 723 patients. Nineteen of those 21 studies used multiple microneedling sessions. However, the number of treatments and spacing between them varied.

That last part matters.

The evidence supports the use of treatment series, but it does not give us a scientifically perfect three-treatment prescription for every face.

When might a series make sense?

A provider may consider several factors:

  • what you’re trying to improve
  • baseline skin quality
  • acne scarring or textural concerns
  • previous procedures
  • how your skin responds to treatment
  • tolerance and recovery
  • your overall treatment plan

Someone looking for ongoing improvement in texture or acne scarring may have a very different plan from someone who simply wants periodic skin maintenance.

Why SKM offers a 12-week program

SKM’s 12-Week Regenerative Skin Program creates structure around the treatment process.

It includes three Regenerative Microneedling + PDGF treatments, a provider-curated home-care protocol, and progress review.

But the important part isn’t simply “three treatments.”

It’s the continuity between them.

Rather than thinking:

Appointment → go home → come back → repeat

we think:

Assess → treat → recover → support → reassess → progress.

That’s a fundamentally different approach to skin care.

Does that mean a single treatment isn’t worthwhile?

No.

A single treatment can be entirely reasonable depending on your goals and clinical plan.

We don’t believe every person who walks through the door needs a package.

The purpose of a consultation and ongoing assessment is to determine what makes sense for your skin, not to fit your skin into a predetermined sales model.

That’s also why our 12-week program is provider-guided.

Your skin. Your plan. Your progression.
